Today, meet the first 7 — they have some intriguing stories to tell! 

  1. Basil (Ocymum basilicum)

Basil’s scent is like a bold burst of green energy — odour intensity 7 and evaporates fairly quickly (rate 78). 
It belongs to the Labiatae family and carries a strong Yang energy, ruled by the fiery planet Mars. 

Basil is the champion of mental clarity and focus. When life feels overwhelming, a whiff of Basil can slice through the fog like a sword. It’s the ultimate oil for study sessions, hectic workdays, or moments when you need to rally your inner warrior. 

  1. Benzoin (Styrax benzoin)

Soft and vanilla-sweet, Benzoin has a gentle odour intensity of 4 and a slow evaporation rate (around 100). It’s ruled by the Sun and radiates Yang warmth, belonging to the Styraceae family. 

Think of Benzoin as a comforting hug for the soul. It soothes frazzled nerves and anchors scattered emotions — the perfect oil for deep relaxation or emotional healing. 

  1. Bergamot (Citrus bergamia)

Fresh and citrusy, Bergamot dances lightly in the air with an intensity of 4 and an evaporation rate of 55. Like Benzoin, it's ruled by the Sun, energising you with its bright Yang force. Bergamot comes from the Rutaceae family. 

If happiness had a scent, it would smell like Bergamot. Uplifting yet gentle, it’s perfect for easing anxiety and encouraging optimism — no wonder it’s a favourite for emotional support blends! 

  1. Black Pepper (Piper nigrum)

Black Pepper’s aroma is intense (odour intensity 7), slightly spicy, and evaporates moderately fast (rate 60). It belongs to the Piperaceae family, with a strong Yang energy ruled by dynamic Mars. 

Need a boost of courage? Black Pepper ignites your inner fire. Whether you're feeling stuck, cold, or demotivated, this oil gently nudges you back into action. 

  1. Camomile (Anthemis nobilis)

The scent of Camomile is sweet, floral, and strong (odour intensity 9), with a moderate evaporation rate (47). With its Yin energy and connection to the nurturing Moon, Camomile is part of the Compositae family. 

It’s the ultimate "relax and let go" oil. Whether you’re calming a fussy child or soothing your own restless mind, Camomile’s gentle magic is always a faithful friend. 

  1. Camphor (Cinnamomum camphora)

Camphor greets you with a cool, medicinal intensity of 5, and although its evaporation rate isn't precisely recorded, it’s fast enough to clear a room. Belonging to the Lauraceae family, Camphor vibrates with grounding Yin energy, ruled by wise Saturn. 

It’s all about clearing — congestion, negativity, confusion. Camphor is like a strong winter wind: brisk, refreshing, and sharply cleansing. 

  1. Cardamom (Elettaria cardamomum)

Cardamom’s scent is warm, spicy-sweet (intensity 9), and evaporates steadily (rate 68). It has Yang energy, is ruled by clever Mercury, and comes from the Zingiberaceae family. 

Need to open your heart and speak your truth? Cardamom encourages heartfelt communication and smoothes out emotional blockages. It’s a must for both romantic nights and challenging conversations.
